Tulsi Gabbard Slams Kamala Harris Over Cheney Endorsements: “A Vote for Harris Is a Vote for Dick Cheney”
Former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard had harsh words for Vice President Kamala Harris after the Democratic nominee expressed being “honored” by endorsements from former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz Cheney. Gabbard’s remarks came after the elder Cheney, known for his role in the Iraq War, endorsed Harris for the upcoming election, declaring her the best choice to “put country over party” and calling former President Trump the “greatest threat” to America.
In his endorsement, Cheney made the controversial claim that Trump directed his followers to violently overturn the election on January 6, despite Trump’s call for peaceful protests.
Harris responded positively to the endorsement, stating, “Actually I was honored to have their endorsements… they’re making an important statement, that it’s okay, and it’s important to put country above party.”
However, Gabbard, speaking alongside Tucker Carlson at an event in Colorado, sharply criticized Harris’ embrace of the Cheneys. “Dick Cheney has just made the choice very clear. A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for Dick Cheney, the architect of everything that has gone wrong in the Middle East for the last few decades,” Gabbard said, urging voters to reflect on Cheney’s legacy of foreign policy failures.
Gabbard’s opposition to Harris is long-standing. In the 2020 Democratic primary, Gabbard fiercely criticized Harris for her record as a prosecutor and attorney general, a debate moment many credit with damaging Harris’ campaign before she became Joe Biden’s running mate.
During her speech, Gabbard took issue with mainstream media’s portrayal of Harris as a vague candidate with little policy detail. She called out Harris for her praise of Cheney, a figure responsible for deeply controversial military interventions, while questioning Harris’ role in the Biden administration’s decisions over the past three years.
Gabbard, a military veteran herself, expressed her disgust over Harris’ comments, particularly addressing the crowd of veterans. “It sickened me, Tucker, to read those words today,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Gabbard has openly challenged the Biden-Harris administration. In a recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Gabbard defended Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where he honored the 13 U.S. servicemen killed during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. Gabbard criticized Harris and Biden for not responding to invitations from the Gold Star families of those killed, calling their absence from the event a “scandal.”
Gabbard, now working with Trump’s campaign, also slammed the media for focusing on Trump’s involvement at the ceremony rather than honoring the fallen servicemen and their families.
“The real scandal is the lack of media coverage of the commemoration itself, and the focus on Trump,” Gabbard said. She further criticized Harris for claiming to support military families while allegedly neglecting to reach out directly to the Gold Star families.
With tensions rising as the election approaches, Gabbard’s fiery remarks have sparked fresh debate over Harris’ leadership, foreign policy, and her relationship with key figures like the Cheneys. For many, Gabbard’s criticisms are a stark reminder of the ongoing fractures within the Democratic Party and the contentious issues at play in this election cycle.
