Poll Finds Taylor Swift’s Endorsement of Kamala Harris Has Little Impact on Voters

While Democrats have praised pop sensation Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as a key factor in the 2024 election, new data suggests the endorsement may not have the influence they had hoped for. A recent poll conducted by YouGov, a left-leaning polling organization, found that only a small fraction of voters are swayed by Swift’s support of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

According to the poll, just 8% of voters said Swift’s endorsement makes them “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for the Harris-Walz ticket. In contrast, 20% of respondents said they are “somewhat” or “much less likely” to support Harris after Swift’s backing, indicating that her endorsement may have backfired for a significant portion of the electorate.

The majority of those polled, 66%, indicated that Swift’s political endorsement will not influence their voting decision in the upcoming 2024 election.

Swift’s Endorsement on Instagram

Swift officially endorsed Vice President Harris in a widely anticipated Instagram post following Tuesday’s presidential debate. This was not the first time the superstar has weighed in on political matters—she supported the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020 and has previously endorsed Democratic Senate candidates.

In her post to 283 million followers, Swift said, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” encouraging her audience to do their own research and make an informed decision.

Mixed Reactions to Swift’s Political Engagement

While Swift’s fanbase is known for its devotion, the YouGov poll reveals a mixed response to her foray into politics. Thirty-two percent of respondents believe that Swift’s endorsement could positively impact Harris’ campaign, while 27% feel that it won’t have any major effect on the election outcome. However, 41% of those surveyed believe that Swift should stay out of politics altogether.

Interestingly, 38% of respondents view Swift’s political endorsements as having a positive effect on society, highlighting the singer’s role as a cultural influencer even beyond her music career.

Taylor Swift’s Popularity in Politics

Despite Swift’s massive popularity, the poll indicates that she may not hold as much sway with voters as her supporters might expect. Sixty-six percent of those surveyed said they are not fans of the singer, while only 28% identified themselves as “Swifties.” A small but enthusiastic 6% declared themselves “big fans.”

With the 2024 election on the horizon, it remains to be seen if Swift’s endorsement will sway any key voting blocs. For now, though, the data suggests her influence may be limited when it comes to shaping the political landscape.

As the campaign season progresses, both Harris and her opponents, including former President Donald Trump, will be closely watching how celebrity endorsements like Swift’s play out with voters in this high-stakes election year.
